Cash Pickup vs Bank Deposit: Which Is Better from UAE?
Comparing cash pickup and bank deposit as payout methods for UAE-to-overseas money transfers — costs, convenience, and when to use each.
When sending money from the UAE, you typically choose between two main payout methods: cash pickup and bank deposit. This guide explains the difference and when each makes sense.
Cash Pickup
Cash pickup allows the recipient to collect physical cash at an agent location in their country. Popular for recipients who are unbanked (no bank account) or live in areas where banking access is limited.
Providers with UAE-accessible cash pickup networks include Western Union and MoneyGram, which have large agent networks in South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal), the Philippines, Egypt, and many other countries.
Verify: Not all providers offer cash pickup for every corridor. Always confirm that cash pickup is available in the recipient's specific city or region — not just the country.
Bank Deposit
Bank deposit transfers the money directly to the recipient's bank account. This is the most common method for recipients with a bank account, and it is typically used by digital remittance apps and UAE exchange houses for international transfers.
Bank deposit usually requires the recipient's account number and bank routing details (IFSC in India, IBAN for some countries, routing number for US, etc.).
Comparing Costs
Both methods can have different fees and exchange rates depending on the provider and corridor. Some providers charge a premium for cash pickup vs bank deposit (or vice versa). Always compare the total cost (fee + exchange rate spread) and the final amount received for your specific transfer before sending.
Data caveat: remit.ae does not publish live provider fees or rates. All comparisons should be performed directly with the provider at the time of transfer.
